Longfellow Storm Drain Stenciling

Posted on 04/06/2023

Longfellow is one of three neighborhoods within Columbia’s Village of Harper’s Choice. The Village of Harper’s Choice is one of the first developments built in Columbia and is home to over 8,000 people.

The Longfellow Storm Drain Stenciling project, led by several Watershed Steward candidates, will focus on 10 storm drains on four residential streets in the Longfellow neighborhood: Iron Pen Place, Lighthouse Court, Mad River Lane, and Hesperus Drive. These storm drains handle storm water running from approximately 68 single family homes.

Several are prominently located along several footpaths leading to the Wilde Lake walking loop.

Here is an example of a stenciled storm drain – Longfellow’s will be marked with the Patuxent River.

Community members will be encouraged to participate in the stenciling and will be given information about easy ways to reduce their storm water run-off.
